MAI TV TO VENTURE INTO HINDI TV

Free to air broadcaster MAI TV today announced it would venture into a 24 hour Hindi Free to air channel in 2011.

Using its current UHF platform, MAI TV said it would provide the people of Fiji a second free to air channel to compliment its existing English Channel MAI TV.

“We have applied to the Department of Communications for new frequency on the UHF platform to launch this new service. We are now waiting for a formal reply from them”, CEO Richard Broadbridge said.

MAI TV says it has lined up world class content and local programmes to fill a Hindi schedule with Suva to have this new service within 6 months of the issuance of its new frequency.

According to Mai TV the Department of Communications needs to allocate a temporary UHF frequency in order for the company to launch a new channel under its existing license.

“We have met a range of content suppliers including Zee TV and will be tapping into the very able production studio’s of SKYLITE Productions Fiji to provide all our local content. Our Hindi channel will be local content driven with a touch of football, cricket and fashion”, Broadbridge added.

Mai TV says the new channel will also cater for the different religious groups and will be driven by advertising and sponsorship revenue.

“We know that Hindi radio is extremely popular with audiences and advertisers alike so its time we took a good look at filling a huge void in this area” Broadbridge said.

Mai TV will soon be running a competition for branding the new station.

“It’s now over to the powers that be to grant us a temporary frequency so we can get this exciting project off the ground”
